Barbie is more like surreal ...as in unbelievable. The only perfect girls that exist are those that know there is no such thing as perfect, everyone has flaws whether there visible or not or known and unknown; they all have them.
You’re making a good point in this concept. And if it wasn't a Barbie Doll young girls and grown women we’re being compared to, it would be some other toy or unrealistic object that would have played a part in programming societies way of thinking about what a female should look like.
This same thing of course did happen with the Ken Doll and GI Joe and it did last for a very brief time. I think if it wasn't for the toys being used as tools to program children into thinking this way; it still would have happened with the movie stars and the music god's.
Perfection is nothing more than an ideal standard or abstract concept.
Vision: However (this is a fancy but) I think there is a few other direct approaches you could have taken and these ideas would have been even further thought provoking and impacting in getting your the main idea across here.
Technique: You could have showed how unreal Barbe is by using an action that makes it extremely obvious and that would make that imagery really stick in people minds. For example you could show how Barbie is flawed and full of many flaws, like how her head turns a whole 360 degrees or how she is brainless and hollow inside.
Originality: Picture this one example: Barbie on a toy bed made to look like an operating table, surrounded by doctors and nurses too and the doctor just sliced open her cranium and finds that it's totally empty proving that Barbie couldn't possibly be real or perfect either. Tah Dah!!! The ideas are endless.
I hope you don't think I'm a great big meanie, I'm just a real person giving you my real honest opinion and we all know that everyone's entitled to their opinion no matter how right or wrong. I still love this conceptual idea of yours and I think all in all you did a pretty job in creating it.
Oh and this Critique, is full of flaws I'm sure according to some Critiques and Word Smiths out there ...in fact I'm more than sure of it. XD
